Virginia Roden started her career as a teacher in a girl’s secondary school in Guildford, Surrey. Some years later, having started her own family, she discovered the Montessori system by chance whilst searching for ways of stimulating her own young pre-school children. Before long she had signed up for the diploma course, soon became qualified as a Montessori teacher and started working in a highly regarded Montessori school in London. A move to High Wycombe in 1995 necessitated a break with London but provided a chance to develop her own schools locally. Sunshine Montessori School is now a thriving school in the heart of a small village bordering on to woodlands and common land close to the Buckinghamshire town of High Wycombe. Cookham Montessori School, situated in the delightful Thames-side village of Cookham Dean, near Maidenhead, was acquired some years later. Both provide children from near and far with a wonderful start to their school life.
Sunshine Montessori Full Day Care Nursery at Wheeler End, High Wycombe opened its doors for the first time on 1st September 2008. It is the only full-time Montessori nursery in Wheeler End and is proving very popular as it provides the hours and flexibility that parents need.
Miss Katie is the Deputy Manager of the nursery. She is a very experienced Montessorian and prior to working here spent 5 years as manager of our Cookham Montessori Nursery. She holds a degree in Early Childhood Studies and gained her ‘Early Years Professional Status’ in 2009. She is currently working towards gaining her Forest School Leader award. She lives in a little cottage deep in the woods and in 2012 gave birth to a gorgeous little daughter!
Miss Lisa is an established practitioner who brings a wide experience of childcare to our nursery in Wheeler End. Lisa is the head of the toddler room helping them have fun and develop. She has two young children of her own so is never far away from the patter of little feet and the chatter of little voices!
Mr Stuart entered the childcare profession having spent a number of years working as an artist. He is very popular with many children and on one occasion “I want Mr Stuart” was heard by a determined 3 year old as he arrived for the day. Stuart is Montessori trained and works with our 3-5 year olds. Stuart is a master at large construction projects and we are all, young and old, in awe of his artistic talents.
Miss Diana is a fully qualified Montessori nursery teacher and before coming to Wheeler End spent a number of years working as a deputy manager at our Cookham nursery before giving birth to her own beautiful daughter. Diana teaches the 3-5 year olds. Everyone loves her gentle, smiley countenance.
Miss Amy Barnett has worked at our nursery since the start of her childcare career in 2009.She holds a NVQ level 3 in childcare and is lead practitioner of the baby department. She also uses much of her private time preparing activities and materials for the nursery.
Miss Amy Reeves spends her week helping the babies feel happy and develop, always with a smile on her face. Whilst working with us she has successfully achieved her NVQ Level 2 in childcare which helps to support her very natural and gentle manner with our youngest children.
Miss Beth built her reputation of being a “natural” with children during her work experience placement at our nursery. She enjoyed her time so much that she applied for a permanent position with us, and spends her time mainly with the 3-5 year olds. Miss Beth has her own horse and loves forest school!
Miss Arlette sent all 4 of her children to our Downley Montessori Nursery. Through her children she ingested many of our Montessori practises. Whilst her children were pupils she willingly donated much of her time and energy in supporting the nursery. She is now a member of our staff team and is undertaking her NVQ level 3 childcare course. She has a passion for supporting our children with special needs who thrive under her guidance.
Miss Bubbles cooks us all absolutely delicious meals and never gets upset when, at times, the children reject her hard work! Luckily she always has an alternative tucked away to ensure no child is hungry!
Miss Fiona, our administrator, remains clam and cheerful no matter how many people are needing information. Her four children attended our Downley nursery so she has an understanding of parents’ needs that provides a very helpful view of our nursery when decisions are being made.
